If you don't like the concept of barter or bargaining, do not read this book. Deals happen. A lot. It's the overarching theme of the book. On the frontier, bargaining is as natural as breathing. Paper money, are you mad?! Don't need it, don't want it, you can keep the useless stuff.

As far as the sex goes, Betina Krahn does not rip you off. We get quite a few intimate encounters, most described at length. I wouldn't call the chemistry between the two leads non-existent, and I wouldn't go so far as to call it out of this world. It's somewhere closer to the second, but not all the way there. The two lovers have a tender relationship moreso than a wildly passionate one. Not that it never gets hot and steamy between the two of them. Truly, it does. Desire is ever present.

Krahn is quick becoming a favourite author of mine. She comes across as highly intelligent, emotionally and intellectually; she's funny, she's knowledgeable, she writes a good sex scene, and she warms the heart. Quite a package.

love the characters and story
I found this book delightful. Garner is a staid Bostonian and Whitney (Whiskey) Daniels is as far removed from a Boston parlor as you can get. She was raised in the frontier and her father opperates an illegal still which she helps to care for. She is as wild as they come. A compromising situation lead these two opposites to the alter and Whitner to Boston were she must find a way to fit into her husbands world. This book is filled with humor as Whitney tries to learn how to be a proper Bostonian wife such as when she decided to learn to drink wine. The cast of characters also add to the books charm. This is a great read.
